‘Transspace – tentative adventures in a molecular aesthetics of territory’.
A speculative step into a new kind of design philosophy in which a new form of materiality and inhabitation are proposed subverting some of the assumptions of dichotomous models of location and space. ST.

Chris Glynn

Chris Glynn BA(Hons)

Chris is an illustrator and musician and Programme Director of BA(Hons) Illustration at Cardiff School of Art & Design : UWIC.

Chris studied Music and Drama at The University of Wales, Aberystwyth, followed by a PGCE at the University of London, Goldsmiths College. After teaching briefly in secondary education, Chris moved on to pursue his love of animation, gaining a position at Siriol Productions in Cardiff. From 1992 he developed a successful freelance practice as a development artist with leading animation studios in the UK, France and Germany, working on flagship productions and popular series for the BBC/S4C and CiTV.

Chris Glynn’s forte is in spanning the perceived boundaries of visual and musical language via performance, drawing and narrative. His performance-based lecturing has taken him to The Animation Workshop in Denmark, Fundacio la Caixa in Barcelona, and l’Institut de l’Image de l’Ocean Indien, Reunion Island. Chris has illustrated a number of books for children, which highlight the metaphysics of play and the changing condition of contemporary childhood. As an emerging researcher and programme leader he is creating new platforms to expand the field of illustration research, while his pedagogical activities investigate the role of improvisation and enactment in drawing and learning processes.

Theo Humphries

Theo Humpries MA(rca) BA(Hons) : Is an interaction designer and a lecturer on the BA(Hons) Illustration at Cardiff School of Art & Design: UWIC.
Proudly Devonian, Theo first studied Design Futures at The University of Wales, Newport, and then completed a masters in interaction design at The Royal College of Art, London, in 2005. Theo was a cofounder of 3eyes Design Consultancy. Through 3eyes, he collaborated internationally with creative people, concentrating his skills, energy, and cutting edge design ethos into commercial work for clients such as Sony and Nokia, as well as undertaking further academic research. Theo’s work has featured in The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, and in numerous books, journals, and magazines. His work is part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Sex in New York.

Theo was a lead participant in the LOCA pervasive surveillance project that has been ‘deployed’ in the UK, Finland and the United States. Theo likes people to be delighted, inspired or troubled by the concepts, objects and experiences that I create or orchestrate, frequently conveying in his work through ‘cute’ media (such as video, or playful objects), yet sinister currents flow beneath this amiable exterior: surveillance, obsolescence, addiction, urban-decay, sex. Stuart Neil

Stuart Neil BA(Hons)

Stuart is a digital media artist and designer and the Programme Director of Ba/BSc(Hons) Mobile Web and Games Design at Cardiff School of Art & Design: UWIC.

Stuart Neil has taught on a multitude of programmes since joining UWIC in 2001. Business Information Systems MSc/BSc/HND/HNC, Retail Management BA/HND, Design for Interactive Media BA/BSc, Graphical Communication BA, Fine Art BA, Broadcast Media and Popular Culture. Stuart previously worked within the interactive media sector winning a number of awards including a BAFTA. Stuart has been the Managing Director of Deft Design since 1996 and is the Education Director for ‘Pedestrian Arts’ a Charitable Non-Profit National Arts Company. Stuart reviews papers for and is a member of the British Computer Society and has been a Judge for BAFTA, The Golden Pixel Awards and the Celtic Film Festival. Stuart has worked with the following clients: BBC, European Commission, Foreign Office, Patent Office, Rockwool, Amec, Elf Oil, British Telecom (BT), Docklands Light Railway, East of Scotland Water, Scottish Power, Welsh Water, SWALEC, SWEB, Hyder, Central Office of Information, Highways Agency, Gwent Police, Marconi, General Electric. Millennium Commission, LSU.
